The Starlight Children's Foundation supports seriously ill children in hospitals around Australia. Their superhero, Captain Starlight, has a mission to make sick kids smile. They spend time with the children in the hospitals' Starlight Express Rooms, helping them forget their illness. To help raise funds to continue this vital work, they are launching the Starlight Smile Project, getting children involved in performing kind acts – doing things that bring a smile to people's faces.
The students at Hornsby Heights Public School are being encouraged to get involved. If a child decides they would like to be a Smile Raiser, they can begin doing kind acts to make people smile and get family and friends to sponsor them. Examples of what children could do to make somebody smile include: making breakfast in bed for their parents, make a card for a sick child in hospital, write a thank you letter to a teacher for a lesson they enjoyed, or helping mum and dad do the washing each night for a week.
